The Diabetic Self-Management Training at Magnolia Regional Medical Center begins with the patient spending approximately one hour with the nurse to discuss their status with the disease, personal habits and ways they deal with diabetes, their medical history, etc. A second appointment is set up for them to visit with the dietitian so she can get a more in-depth idea of their nutritional knowledge and to help them determine their personal nutritional goals for better health.
Diabetes Self-Management Classes are held weekly for five weeks. Conversation maps are used to include all attendees and make learning entertaining.
Diabetes Self-Management training and classes are covered under Medicare and many insurance plans. Those unable to attend group learning due to a disability may take part in private sessions.
